#ItsNotOK

Did you know that 1 in 3 women globally has faced some form of sexual or physical violence? This number has not changed in more than 10 years — #ItsNotOK!

Starting November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and running through December 10 (World Human Rights Day), join us for 16 Days of Activism, a worldwide annual campaign against Gender-Based Violence.

Violence against women takes many forms from harassment to intimate partner violence to child marriage. Some of it may be accepted or ignored by the societies in which we live but none of it is ok. It may look different across cultures but we are all connected by a shared experience of Gender-Based Violence.

Add your voice to our global community working to end violence against women. Will you stand with us to say #ItsNotOK?

Here are some ways you can take action now:

Placard image
  1. Add your voice - Speak up to stop normalizing violence against women.

  1. Tell us what needs to change. Share your #ItsNotOK statement with the world. Simply post a 30-second video or selfie on your social media with your #ItsNotOK statement, nominate 3 of your friends in your post, and tag @womenforwomen to spread the word.

  1. Be part of ending violence against women. Download the 16 Days of Activism Activity Calendar and follow along each day of the campaign on @womenforwomen to participate in the social actions.

  1. Keep spreading awareness that #ItsNotOK that 1 in 3 women experiences violence and share our images and survivor stories with your friends and family. Download our 16 Days of Activism social media toolkit.

Add Your Voice

Violence against women is often normalized and relies on a culture of silence.

We know it takes courage to speak out.

In Afghanistan for example, our data shows that nearly 40% of women felt empowered to speak out publicly against the abuse of women after graduating from our program, compared to just 2% at enrollment.

If we all join together to raise our voices, we increase our collective power to end violence against women.
